Preserving Modesty in a Loud World
Bismillāh.
This is a reminder first to myself, written in need, not from a place of knowing, but hoping.
If it benefits you too, then All Praise is due to Allah سبحانه وتعالى alone.
It’s noisy out there.
Everyone’s telling you how to be - overconfident, unapologetic, seen, praised, and followed. But beneath the filters and followers is a quiet truth: modesty has never been outdated.
Modesty isn’t only in fabric. It’s in the way we speak, walk, post, and even think. It’s the invisible guard that reminds us:
“You are not here to perform. You are here to worship.”
Modesty is the shield of a believing woman.
It does not limit her worth - it protects it.
💬 A Letter to Myself
Dear self,
You do not need to be loud to be valuable.
You don’t need validation to be seen by Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
When the world says “expose more,” remind yourself:
Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves those who lower their gaze.
When society rewards boldness, remember:
The Prophet ﷺ praised shyness in a companion as a sign of Imaan. (Riyad as-Salihin 681)
It’s okay if you’re different.
It’s okay to be covered, quiet, and careful.
Not because you lack confidence — but because you have Taqwa.
Your modesty is not for this world.
It’s your way of Knowing:
“My Rabb is enough.”
🪞 What I’m Trying to Protect
🎯 1. Modesty in Dress
Ask before choosing what to wear:
Does this please Allah سبحانه وتعالى or impress people?Loose, covered, simple.
🪶 2. Modesty in Speech
Lower the tone. Hold the sarcasm.
Keep away from overexposing your heart in public spaces.
Don’t joke at the expense of dignity.
📱 3. Modesty Online
Before posting, ask:
Why am I sharing this?Avoid indirect self-praise or attention-seeking under the veil of “confidence.”
Guard what only belongs to your close circle - or your husband.
📝 Practical Steps for Real-Life Application
Reflect on what makes you uncomfortable and what might displease Allah سبحانه وتعالى - adjust quietly.
Surround yourself with sisters who remind you of Jannah, not trends.
Write a duʿa asking Allah to make modesty beloved to your heart.
Choose one change a month: fewer photos, more silence, more intention.
📖 Anchored in Revelation
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to expose their adornment…”

“Modesty is part of faith.”

🌸 Final Reflections
The west has no interest in modesty being a ‘trend’.
But Jannah isn’t a trend — it’s a destination.
Choose the quiet beauty of hayaa’.
Not to impress any human.
But out of love and fear.
For the One who sees you when no one else does.
With love always,
still striving, still learning — your sister in need of Allah.
